Image Source = https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_snowtrout#/media/File:Snow_Trout1.tif   परिचय: स्नो ट्राउट (Snow Trout), साइप्रिनिडी (Cyprinidae) परिवार एवं साइजोथोरैक्सिन उप-परिवार से संबंधित मछलियों की एक प्रजाति है, जिनका भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप के हिमालयी और उप-हिमालयी क्षेत्रों में सर्वव्यापी वितरण है। ठंडे पानी वाले क्षेत्र की खाद्य मछलियों के समूह में इनका महत्वपूर्ण योगदान है। पूरी दुनिया में स्नो ट्राउट की वितरित 15 जेनेरा में से सौ से अधिक प्रजातियां शामिल हैं। भारतीय उप-हिमालयी क्षेत्र में स्नो ट्राउट की कुल सात जेनेरा में से लगभग 17 प्रजातियां ठंडे पानी के मत्स्य पालन में योगदान देती हैं। मछलियों के इस समूह के पास एक स्ट्रीम लाइन बॉडी, कम स्केल, निचले होंठ में मोडीफिकेशन, छोटी बार्बल्स या बार्बल्स की पूर्ण अनुपस्थिति और लंबी पूंछ (कौडल पेडंकल) है।   अधिकांश प्रजातियां कुल दो जेनेरा साइजोथोरैक्स और साइजोथोरैक्थिस से संबंधित हैं। इन दो जेनेरा को थूथन (snout) के आकार के आधार पर व्यापक रूप से विभेदित किया गया है। साइजोथोरैक्स के पास एक भोथरा थूथन (blunt snout)  और सेक्टोरियल होंठ होता है, जबकि साइजोथोरैक्थिस के पास सक्टोरियल होंठ के बिना एक नुकीला थूथन (pointed snout) होता है। प्रमुख प्रजातियों में से साइजोथोरैक्स रिचार्डसोनी, साइजोथोरैक्स प्लागीस्टोमस, साइजोथोरैक्थिस एसोसिनस, साइजोथोरैक्थिस लांगिपिनीस, साइजोथोरैक्थिस प्लानिफ्रोन्स, साइजोथोरैक्थिस माइक्रोपोगोन, साइजोथोरैक्थिस कर्विफ्रॉन्स, साइजोथोरैक्थिस नासस, साइजोथोरैक्थिस हुगेली, साइजोथोरैक्थिस ...

International Arctic Expedition : "Leadership on the edge" Generating awareness on Climate Change   NHPC was recently associated with an International Expedition to the Arctic region titled ‘Leadership on the edge’. The expedition was organized by 2041 Foundation, an organization founded by polar explorer, environmental leader and public speaker Robert Swan, OBE, the first person in history to walk to both the North and South Poles. This prestigious international expedition comprised of over 80 explorers and was linked with crucial global environmental issues like climate change and environmental sustainability. The expedition had aimed towards inspiring individuals to promote a sustainable future and create resilient communities to act on climate change issues.   NHPC sponsored the participation of Ms Manu Panwar, a 2014 IRS Officer, currently posted as Deputy Director at Directorate of Revenue Intelligence. Institute of Directors (IOD), India an apex association of company directors and senior business leaders organized a Director’s Conclave on its 29th Annual Day on 26th August, 2019 at Hotel The Ashok, New Delhi. The conclave with a theme “Future Boards: Leading Strategy to Embrace Sustainability” was organized with an intention to give the participants greater insight into corporate governance and best practices and facilitate the exchange of innovative ideas and roadmap for accelerating Board Performance and Effectiveness for future. NHPC was invited by IOD to give a special presentation on the issue and on behalf of NHPC, the presentation titled “Paradigm Shift in Business Sustainability-NHPC’s Experience” underlining the environment & social performance of NHPC was presented by Dr. Sujit Kumar Bajpayee, DGM (Environment). Hill slope of left bank of TLD-IV Power Station near Dam site is successfully restored through engineering and biological measures conducive to the terrain. Engineering measures such as retaining walls were constructed at the base of the slope and different biological measures were adopted keeping in view the local eco-climatic conditions. Biological protection measures such as bamboo palisade (Belly Benching) have been provided over the slope to avoid further erosion at this location and also to support biological rejuvenation.

Urbanization, economic development, changing consumption patterns and population growth have led to increase in water demand. Disturbingly high rates of consumption of surfactants in household and industries have led to mark them as emerging contaminants in the environment. Surfactants are widely used in detergents, fabric softeners, soaps, personal care products like shampoos, cosmetics etc. and in several industrial processes like agriculture, paints, textiles, pharmaceuticals and pesticide formulations. Instances of polluted lakes spewing froth and creating uncomfortable conditions in nearby areas have become common. As an example, Bellandur lake in Bengaluru, India was recently in news for discharging heavy volumes of froth on adjacent roads and residential areas.
