River Ranching in river Teesta for TLD-III & TLD-IV Power Stations under Fish Management Plan

To facilitate unhindered upstream fish migration over the barrage structures, fish ladders are provided at TLD-III and TLD-IV Power Stations. The fish ladder was constructed across the barrage of TLD-IIIPS based on the studies carried by Central Inland Capture Fisheries Research Institute (currently known as CIFRI), Barrackpore and Inland Fisheries Training Institute, Kolkata, as a part of EMP. The fish ladder constructed across the dam of TLD-IVPS in consultation with Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), Kolkata. The detailed studies on riverine fisheries of Teesta were undertaken by these Institutes before the commencement of any project activity. To facilitate the movement of migratory fish through fish ladders, release of minimum 1.25 cumec of water is being ensured by both the Power Stations.

River ranching programme for conservation and propagation of river Teesta has been conducted. The project reservoir of TLD-IV PS or downstream of TLD-III PS near Hanuman Jhora in Kurseong Division has been supplemented with fish fingerlings in association with officials from the State Fisheries Deptt. and Projects along with the local populace.
